Date and Time of Workshop: Mon. Jan. 9, 2023 4:00-5:00pm (mountain)
This short book offers a peek behind the curtain to understand synagogue services and how they evolved into modern prayerbooks. Infographics help to demystify the two main sections of the service, Sh'ma uvirchoteha and the Amidah. The spiritual and historical journey of our liturgy includes an improvisatory beginning, early siddurim, the printing press, Kabbalah, Hasidism, and modern history and creativity. For congregations and individuals who want to learn more about why we do what we do at services, this book offers a way in that is informative, but not overwhelming.
"Hazzan Abbe Lyons is dedicated to making Jewish music, learning and practice both accessible and inspiring, in everyday life as well as at sacred times. She is on faculty at ALEPH Ordination Programs and Jewish Chaplain for Hillel at Ithaca College, as well as a musician, writer and innovative liturgist."
